Khatz Coats™ is a textile-based wearable art practice exploring identity, healing, and transformation through sculptural garment design.
Each piece is developed through layered materials and intentional construction, allowing the garment to function as both a visual form and an embodied experience. Rooted in story, these works invite reflection, presence, and a deeper relationship between the wearer and the work itself.
Why This Work Exists
Visibility is a form of healing.
This practice centers women of color, survivors, and creatives whose stories are often carried—but not always seen. Through material, structure, and form, Khatz Coats™ creates space for identity to be held, expressed, and witnessed.
Where the Work Is Now
Khatz Coats™ is an active healing-centered apparel and cohort model delivering wearable legacy artifacts to women navigating cancer survivorship, trauma, and major life transitions. Each coat is custom-designed through a chakra-awareness assessment, handcrafted by a master artisan, and embedded with a QR-coded personal legacy declaration that the woman carries for life. Broken Crayons Still Coloring™ is in active engagement partnership development with The Victory Center in Toledo, Ohio — a premier cancer survivorship organization — to launch the inaugural Sponsor-a-Coat™ pilot cohort. A culminating public exhibition — Khatz Coats™: Wearable Form & Embodied Experience — is proposed for January 2027. This work was featured in The Toledo Blade in July 2025.
How the Work Is Experienced
